Hydrosols and the How tos.

Are you brand new to the world of essential oils? Feeling a bit in over your head? Perhaps hydro-sols are a great place to start off. Even aroma-enthusiasts can enjoy the simplicity of hydro-sols!

What are Hydro-sols?

Hydrosols or "flower waters," are produced by distilling fresh leaves, fruits, flowers, and other plant materials. With similar properties to essential oils, these aromatic waters are much less concentrated and ready to use! Their aromas are often soft and subtle when compared to their essential oil counterpart. They have a water-like consistency and are commonly used in spray bottles. Make no mistake - they are not watered down, just water-like. They are clean and fresh, and will not leave an oily residue behind. Hydrosol color can vary from yellowish clear to fully clear. Hydrosols are the by-product of the essential oils distillation process. They can be sprayed into the air, applied directly to the skin, and used in the home.

Just like essential oils, each hydrosol comes with its own therapeutic benefits and suggested uses. There are so many ways to use hydrosols that we couldn’t possibly list them all! In general, the most common uses include:

  • Hair/Face/Body mist
  • Room/Linen spray
  • Bath enhancement
  • Disinfectant/surface cleaner in the home
  • In place of water for homemade beauty product recipes
  • Insect repellent
  • As a natural perfume
  • Can also be used in place of water to dilute essential oils
